Turning a 1980s country house into a that stands out from the crowd and welcomes you in a serene and sensational fashion this fabulous renovated residence in Los Angeles was transformed by Rios Clementi Hale Studios. The elegant conversion takes into account both the heritage of the structure its current needs and tomorrow’s design trends as it aims to become a bridge between a lovely past and the ergonomic future. It is slate roof tiles and tongue-and-groove siding of gray-painted cedar that shape the distinct exterior of the home along with a gabled roof and two-story brise soleil.
These generous outdoor spaces extend the indoor living area and create an opportunity for al fresco dining and living even while promising complete privacy. The presence of a hot tub that overlooks the waterways and minimal seating add to the opulence of the setting.
Crafted using steel concrete wood and stone balance is the key element of design here in every sense of the word. One sees the open living areas flow into the luxurious terrace outside which overlooks the Jacuzzi and the vast green spaces beyond.
As is the norm in most contemporary homes it is the ground level that holds the open living area kitchen dining room and the home office while the basement contains the wine room bedroom and other utility areas. The master bedroom and bathroom along with three additional bedrooms sit on the top level and enjoy lovely views of the garden and the landscape beyond.
A series of sliding glass doors connect these large living spaces with the outdoors and with each home comprising three individual structures that separate the public areas from the private ones there is ample privacy for the homeowners. A second volume contains three bedrooms on the ground floor and the master suit on the top level while a third volume holds the utility areas kitchen and pantry.
It is cast-in-place concrete and artisanal bricks that give the interior a modern industrial appeal even as they usher in ample textural beauty. With a wood screen at the front that hides the parking and entrance there is plenty of contrast at every turn.
