These generous outdoor spaces extend the indoor living area and create an opportunity for al fresco dining and living even while promising complete privacy. The presence of a hot tub that overlooks the waterways and minimal seating add to the opulence of the setting.
It is the lower level that contains the new kitchen and dining space that are flooded with natural light thanks to the smart use of skylights and light tubes. The space under the staircase is also utilized to the hilt with a series of closed cabinets and a wine storage and display area that is both simple and elegant.
The 200-year-old Spanish country house is nestled on a small mountain on the scenic northern shore of the island and the revamped structure makes the most of its location by offering unabated views of the landscape distant coastline and beyond. On the outside it is fruit trees and a lush green garden that drape you in a cloak of natural goodness and offer complete privacy while the interior brings together contrasting textures and finishes that create a unique relaxing setting.
The wooden staircase acts as a spatial feature by separating the kids’ wing of the home from the adult bedroom on the top level while adding sculptural beauty to the open living area on the ground floor. The stairwell also brings natural light to the basement level and acts as a common connecting thread between the various floors.
Transforming the seemingly boring house into a contemporary masterpiece that enthralls with unabated views of the majestic Lake Austin and the rolling hills that surround it its revamped design leaves you simply awestruck.
The idea behind the extension was to enlarge the living space and alter the existing floor plan of the house and to move the dining area and family room into the new structure. Concrete and glass were the materials used to shape this seemingly minimal and polished new addition with the sliding glass doors and large floor-to-ceiling windows inviting the landscape indoors.
This was accomplished by keeping the structure of the home simple and minimal. It is the wooden ceiling and the concrete floor that act as two simple planes that define the residence with the glass walls creating flexible boundaries between the interior and the garden outside. The interaction between indoor and outdoor spaces is seamless and one feels as if surrounded by the lovely garden while sitting in the living area or the family room.
