A versatile building that was designed to make the most of the scenic views of the and to accommodate a family that required four separate yet largely identical apartment units Zambeze is exceptional in more ways than one.
The dashing home is essentially a window into two different natural ecosystems and its designers Benjamin Garcia Saxe did their best in trying to create a breezy residence that invites in both of these lovely backdrops.
Designed by Oleg Drozdov the house is broadly divided into three individual units with each one having its own series of balconies and private terraces that melt into the common social zone at the heart of it all. The central living zone flows into the semi-open terrace and pool area that overlooks the generous garden outside. This ingeniously crafted terrace allows the homeowners to enjoy ‘outdoor living’ throughout the year and allows the adults in the house to keep an eye on the kids as they spend time in the garden.
Features such as the stone walls in the kitchen and the bathroom and the striking ‘sabina beams’ have been carefully preserved while the newly added gorgeous window frames along with the concrete and white chalk-plastered stone walls aim to recreate the magic of the past. It is this fusion that gives the modest retreat its exceptional character and transports you back in time to a simpler period.
The dining area kitchen family room and bedrooms were carefully positioned to make the most of the unabated view on offer even as the bedrooms on the top floor welcome the canopy indoors. With the street façade and dense vegetation offering complete privacy this LA home tries to create a refreshing and grand green oasis amid all the urban chaos that surrounds it.
On the inside the living space is simple understated and allows the views outside to grab all the attention even as modern décor and wonderful lighting create an inviting ambiance. With the top level housing the bedrooms that also offer unobstructed views of the watery landscape life at this serene Dutch residence does seem like an absolute dream!
